Sporting Dogs

Sporting dogs are very popular group of dogs among hunters. Many times breeders will train dogs for hunting purposes. People who want to own sporting dogs must understand that these dogs need to have regular invigorating exercise. These dogs are very active and enjoy running around and about. If you do not have time to participate in exercise routines with your dog, getting a sport dog may not be a good idea. Sporting dogs are well rounded companions who not only active but alert. Their sense of smell is spectacular. Their instincts work in water as well as in the woods. They will actively hunt with their owners.

Sporting dogs are classified and used by breeders and kennel clubs to designate dogs for pointing, flushing, and retrieving games. These dogs hunt by air scent unlike most hound dogs. Hound dogs hunt by ground scent and are primarily game birds. Sporting dogs are usually pointers, setters, retrievers, and spaniels. Pointer dogs stand with their nose and body rigidly still in front of the quarry directing the hunter to its location. The setter dogs were originally trained to set, or crouch until the hunter makes a capture with the net.

There are other types of breeds that are also considered sporting dogs. These dogs include the American water spaniel, Brittany spaniel, Chesapeake Bay retriever, clumber spaniel, cocker spaniel, curly coated retriever, English cocker spaniel, English setter, and an English springer spaniel. These dogs are not hard to train when it comes to hunting and other sports such as this. Their canine instincts take over and they put their best foot, or paw, forward. They are lovable dogs that know how to get the job done, and you will not regret using these breeds of dogs as sporting dogs. It is an excellent choice.
