The basic supplies needed to care for a dog or cat are obvious: food, grooming supplies and a leash. However, these are not nearly all of the pet products dogs and cats usually have accumulated. In a culture which cherishes our four legged little friends, we often look what some may consider luxuries for animals as essentials; such as a bed and toys. Presently, the market for pet products has grown so extensively that you and your pet can be pampered thanks to new designs and technology improving on many of the old basics.

For instance, how many cat owners have to turn on the faucet so their cat can drink because they will not tolerate standing water? As a dog person, this phenomenon was unknown to me until as of late, but I now understand that it is not uncommon. For this purpose, there are drinking bowls for dogs and cats which act like water fountains, constantly recycling the water through a filter keeping it pure, fresh and running. This accomplishes two ends; your cat may have a drink whenever she is thirsty and you do not have to stop what you are doing to accommodate her desire for running water!

The advent of the self cleaning litter box was undoubtedly a joyous day for cat lovers around the world. Usually working on a principle of motion detection, the litter box will rake itself clean after the cat leaves the box; depositing the waste in a separate container to be emptied and a fresh layer of kitty litter in the box. Not only does this reduce on odors and unsightly messes; multiple cats can share a litter box more sanitarily and happily.

Dog lovers have their own reasons to rejoice and enjoy a cleaner, more pleasant smelling environment ever since a miniature septic tank was developed to accommodate your dog’s messes. The small tank is placed into a hole dug into your yard, with a small opening at the top. Once you’ve scooped the poop, deposit it into the opening and a chemical enzyme reaction will break down the solid waste.

And after all of this technology, you still have a pet who occasionally leaves an accident somewhere in the house, there are specially designed black lights which will illuminate pet waste in dark or hard to reach places. All you need is this light, some floor cleaner and a lot more training!
