Dog Clothes

One of the hottest trends to really take off in the last few years is dog clothes. Dog clothes range from a ballerina tutu to a hooded sweatshirt and are not just for keeping your little friend warm during chilly months. Of course, sweaters and jackets still serve a function in keeping your dog warm and dry but now come in dozens of styles and colors so your dog may also show off her style and couture.

Functional dog clothes include rain coats and slickers to keep your dog dry and booties to protect paws from ice and salt during the harsh winter months. Smaller breeds, especially those who have short hair may really benefit from a sweater or coat during the cold months to keep from catching a cold and just being able to enjoy their time outside better. To serve an important function, there are dog life preservers which protect your best friend from fatigue when swimming.

If planning to dress your dog in clothes it is important to begin early. The younger the puppy is the more part of the normal routine it becomes and the struggle will eventually end. Be patient, dogs are used to being naked; the first few attempts will probably fail as your dog will not stay still. Also, be careful; never force a dog's head or legs into a garment due to risk of possible injury. With clear commands and gentle direction, dressing your dog will become easier each time you do it.

Costumes such as firefighters and soccer players are available for your dogs during Halloween and are sized according to pound ranges (i.e. - 8-10lbs). During the holiday season, Santa hats, reindeer antlers and elf ears can be placed on your dog's head while posing for pictures. And of course, for the diva dog, a nice feather boa will show her true style all year round.
