Dogs can be wonderful pets. Choosing the right breed, however, can be a bit of a challenge.   One popular breed are boxer dogs. There are, though, a number of considerations to adhere to when considering a boxer as a pet.

First, boxer dogs do not work well in the extreme heat or the extreme cold. They like to be kept in seventy to seventy-two degree environments as much as possible. Their body systems simply aren't designed to deal with weather extremes, so they must not only be indoor pets, they probably also won't tolerate being taken outdoors for extensive walking or hiking in the cold or hot weather. However, because boxer dogs are an incredibly intelligent animal, they need both physical and mental exercise on a daily basis. Being cooped up all day is hard on them, and boxers who get bored misbehave regularly. If the weather permits, a daily walk is necessary.

Boxer dogs are fun loving animals. They love to play, so if you're looking for a serious animal, this may not be right for you. Moreover, if you're looking for a guard dog, boxers are not, by nature, aggressive animals. They can, and probably will protect you, but do not expect them to be a guard. For this reason, they are a great breed to have around children. They seem to sense a child's limitations and play to them. They are also lap dogs. Boxer dogs do not play independently very well, so for that reason, you need to be prepared to constantly interact with your new pet. Boxers will follow you as you do your household chores, sit on your lap as you watch television, or sit in the middle of the floor and play with your and your family. As with any pet, they need unconditional love. They need regular affection, and if they sense you are angry with them, boxers will misbehave.
