Boxer Dog

One of the most regal and beautiful breeds of canine one can see in a dog show is the boxer dog. A boxer dog in show should be a medium dog. It should be squarely built (hence the name boxer dog) with strong limbs, short hair, and a coat that fits tightly to its body. For show, the dog should have well developed muscles that look smooth. He should walk with a firm gait and proud strides.

The boxer dog was originally bred for strength. They were used as guard, work, and pet animals so strength, agility, and intelligence were important in the development of the boxer dog. They generally have a steadfast and largely gentle temperament.

For shows, a boxer dog must have his granite like head in proportion to his body. The characteristic blunt muzzle would be of proper form and in proportion with the rest of the dog’s skull.

The ears of the boxer dog should be on the highest parts of the sides of the skull, and they are usually cropped. For those boxer dogs without cropped ears, they should lay flat and near the dog’s cheeks. When the dog is alert to something, the uncropped ears should fall forward with a crease.

A boxer dog should also have eyes placed on the front of the head. They should be dark brown in color and in proportion to the dog’s head and body. Ideally, the boxer dog should have pigmented rims to its eyelids.
